Antenatal (prenatal) care is the healthcare a woman receives during pregnancy, while postnatal care covers the period after delivery. Regular and thorough care during both phases is essential for the health and wellbeing of mother and baby.

Antenatal Care
  • First Trimester: Confirmation of pregnancy, dating scan, blood group, haemoglobin, thyroid, blood sugar, and infection screening
  • Second Trimester: Anomaly scan (18-20 weeks), glucose tolerance test, growth monitoring, and vaccination (Tdap)
  • Third Trimester: Growth scans, foetal Doppler, non-stress test (NST), birth plan discussion, and delivery preparation

Typically: monthly visits until 28 weeks, fortnightly from 28-36 weeks, and weekly from 36 weeks until delivery. More frequent visits may be needed for high-risk pregnancies.

Ideally, as soon as you know you are pregnant — usually by 6-8 weeks of gestation. Early booking allows for timely screening tests and early identification of any risk factors.
